As we approach the end of the year, we are reminded of all we have to be thankful for in our lives. If you have experienced bounty this year, consider yourself blessed. If you struggled this year but you are still here, consider the bright spots in your life.
From the first day our doors opened, we have partnered with local community organizations who serve underprivilaged kids, the infirmed, those in need, and the families of our community. From now until December 12, we will be collecting non-perishable food and gifts for kids (newborn through 18 years). These donations will be taken to a beautiful event at a local, community minded church.
The event is called Affordable Christmas. It is a time where parents can come in and shop for their children. The items are marked down to 10% of the retail price of the gift. For instance, they can purchase a brand new $30.00 gift for their child for $3.00! This gives the families a hand up and allows them to provide for their kiddos with dignity and grace. My family has served in this every year for the past several years. I love helping the parents load their car with gifts they could not have provided without the help. It really is a beautiful thing!
People always ask what is done with the funds the parents pay for their gifts. We use those funds to begin stocking up for the next year's Affordable Christmas. In other words, what the parents pay goes toward helping the next person who needs a hand up.
This year, we are doing something new. We are also collecting food to send the family home with a Christmas dinner! We have collection bins for food and for gifts in our store.
